Traffic Woes - Is it a myth?

Such a sad an unfortunate sight our city roads present sometimes that one is forced to cease doing everything and start pondering over what prevails and what lies ahead of it. On every traffic light, I see people stopping on red signal and moving swiftly on the green. Where has the outlaw denizen of the city vanished into? Where has the road rage disappeared from this world? Honking of horns is nowhere to be heard and the streets wear nothing less than a deserted look. Adding more to the woes is absence of potholes and broken patches of road that we all have been accustomed to since time immemorial. If this continues for long, there would be immense safety on road and hence our city roads shall become way safer than they have ever been. What should be done in order to bring the chaos and traffic snarls back to the roads? “Ever since the lane system was adopted by drivers, the flow of traffic has become so organized that I often get confused and am forced to look into the GPS to check whether I am in the right town or not. In order to avoid such confusions and mental harassment, I suggest that lane system be abolished” suggested Ameesh Gupta, a student. Speaking to the correspondent, the in charge of vehicular movement, Shri Maruti Chand Figo said that the improved traffic in the city is a serious threat to the years old image of the city which was once known for traffic woes. “The so-called betterment of traffic is only rosy to look at, we had incidents reported where drivers lost their mind on witnessing the sudden change in city’s traffic condition and they had to be admitted to the psychiatry ward at the local hospital” said Shri Figo. According to a post on a popular social networking website, a city based NGO is planning a protest followed by a candle march originating from the bus stand on Sunday evening. The aim of the NGO is to create awareness about the good side of traffic hiccups and the social stigmas attached to the traffic problems. “Our NGO is continuously trying to help the city get restored to the same congested, polluted, and noisy dwelling that it was till few weeks ago before the citizens developed sane traffic sense” lamented Ms Sonia, Mis-managing director at the NGO. Sources have also reported that the sudden appearance of sane traits related to driving is result of cosmic radiations that penetrated the atmosphere over the country. The rays are believed to have been sent using equipment launched by neighbouring country to hamper the prevailing joy and comfort among the residents.

Pain v/s Cure

How often do we find ourselves complaining and being blue over situations that absolutely are out of our control and will? Probably too often! One such time of our lives is when we are recovering from a disease, accidental injury, or any other health related circumstance. I am writing this one, not because I believe in one particular philosophy but because I have fought a long battle with one such suffering and in return I spent time thinking about ways that could have helped me in feeling better. I have definitely not become stoic towards pain or insensitive towards agonies, but it seems like I have conquered the ‘suffering’ part that is way more painful than the physical pain involved in our ailments.

Firstly, I have spoken to myself and repeated the fact that I had no choice at the moment something bad happened to me. Nor had I asked for an injury or any unfitness, then why do I choose let that tear of grief trickle down my cheek when I have far happier ways to deal with it. I personally have chosen to utilize the time to nourish my skill, tastes, and interests that in no case would have been possible while being over occupied with work life. As I type this, I try to recall that how many times in past 4 years I have taken a day off work just because I wanted to devote the day and time towards developing a part of me that truly defines me and my tastes. Sadly, I realized that apart from when I was sick or unwell or there were blue emergencies, it took a lot of heart and thought to stay away from routine. Does it mean that one should look forward to being incapacitated and then celebrate the rough time? I would not agree. But, now that you are already in the rough waters, complaining wouldn’t help, but sailing through it would definitely do. It is also worth realizing that an often neglected concern of a good diet also does not comes up unless it is a doctor, a dietician or anyone ‘qualified’ to do so writes us a prescription or recommendation. Now that when one is ailing and is spending dough for the piece of paper, one starts working on a good diet and doing everything that one should have done otherwise too.
This is to be emphasized that painkillers, medication, and surgeries are technological and chemical advancements that are meant to improve life, not always save it. I have utmost respect for all the medical professionals out there who take fullest of effort and spend a lifetime studying just because they want us to be fit, but your very own role in your recovery cannot be overlooked. It is funny that how I have come to know a lot about medicine, anatomy, and medical practices when in distress; it is funnier that at times I am glad that I now know a lot about my best tool, my own body. It is very obvious that fractured bones would cause pain and ruptured skin would cause blood to ooze and malignancy would result in fatal long term damage to the body; but worrying would do no good to repair it. Do you know anyone who is a part of an ongoing battle with the body and health? Please take a moment to call his phone, and share with him, that what matters most is staying happy because the only highway to fitness passes through happiness.
